Mr. Jimmy Ward Spivey, age 74, died Thursday, in the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center, Whiteville, NC. Born in Columbus County, he was the son of the late H. Cliff Spivey and Ruby Hooker Spivey. He was preceded in death by three siblings: Doris Spivey Gay; Barbara S. Spivey, and Donald D. Spivey.
For thirty years Jimmy was employed with Columbus County Schools. Prior to that, he was a N.C. probation and parole officer. He also enjoyed serving as the Columbus Baptist R.A. Sports Director for many years.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of fifty three years, Betty Jo Peterson Spivey; one son, Randall Kent Spivey (Sylvia) of Houston, Texas; one daughter, Tonya Jo Spivey Schoolcraft (Jason) of Whiteville, NC; and two grandsons, Zachary and Lance Spivey of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by one sister, Faye S. Rozier of Tabor City and two brothers; Tommy Spivey of Tabor City; Billy Spivey (Daphine) of Inman, S.C.
Visitation will be held Sunday, February 28, 2016 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM in the Inman Ward Funeral Home of Tabor City.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, February 28, 2016 at 3 PM in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Tabor City.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center and Angel House, 206 Warrior Trail Rd. Whiteville, NC 28472.
