Tabor City, NC
Rev. James Wade Fowler, age 97, died Tuesday, January 2, 2024 in Tabor Commons Assisted Living, Tabor City. He was a retired Baptist minister.
Born April 23, 1926, in Horry County, SC, he was the son of the late Leon Adolphos Fowler and Hattie Daisy Rogers Fowler.
He graduated from Green Sea High School, Mars Hill Junior College, Wake Forest College in 1954 and from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1958, pastoring churches both in North and South Carolina. Following his retirement, Rev. Fowler worked for Columbus County to help organize home care services to its citizens through the NC Community Alternatives Program for Disabled Adults.
He is survived by one daughter, Sandra F. Wheeler of Angier, NC; one son, Larry Wade Fowler of Virginia Beach, VA; one brother, John Hiram Fowler of Tabor City, NC; two sisters, Faye Leigh of Seneca, SC, Lois Fowler of Columbia, SC; four grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; and two step-sons, Ricky Harrelson of Wilmington, NC, Duane Harrelson of Statesville, NC.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Lorena Bennett Harrelson; and three brothers, Harvey A. Fowler, Leon Douglas Fowler, and Alvard Fowler.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 5, 2024 at 11:00AM in Tabor City Baptist Church with private burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Tabor City.
Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church.
