Larry Gay Hewett

Larry Gay Hewett, age 71, died Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center in Whiteville, NC. Born on November 28, 1952, in Tabor City, NC, he was the son of the late Willie Hewett and Lucille Hardy Hewett. In addition to his parents, Larry is preceded in death by his brother, Jan Hewett.

He is survived by one brother, Gene Hewett (Dee) of Jacksonville, FL, best friend and caregiver Mark Coleman, and best friends Jane and Jonathan Coleman and his fur baby “Presley.”

Larry was employed with the Columbus County School System for several years, serving as an art teacher and later as an AIG teacher until his retirement. After retiring, Larry devoted his time to his artwork and volunteer work at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, June 24, 2024 in the Clarendon Baptist Church with Pastor Ryan Edwards officiating.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service in the church.
