Joyce Miller Woodell, age 90, of Clarksville, TN (formerly of Tabor City, NC), passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2026 in the Vanderbilt Clarksville Hospital, Clarksville, TN.
Born December 7, 1935 in Columbus County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Shep Miller and Lizzie Strickland Miller, and the widow of Alvie Lee Woodell.
Joyce was known by many as mom/grandma to close friends and family. Although she never remarried, she enjoyed talking and spending time with her special friend, Marlin Dale Smith. She loved cooking her specialty of collards and corn bread. Her favorite pastime was working in her garden and working on her puzzle books. She also enjoyed playing games on her tablet computer with her Yorkie dog, Bella. There were times that you did not bother grandma, when she was watching her soaps and Friday Night Smackdown.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Eddie Lee Woodell; five brothers, Royce, Bobby, Howard, Robert, and Buster; four sisters, Baby Girl (at birth), Lucille, Esther, and Linda Fay; and several nieces and nephews.
She is survived by two daughters, Kathy Lee Cassata (John) of Clarksville, TN, and Joyce Susanne Grooms of Nichols, SC; siblings, Rossi Miller (Doris), and Patsy Ricker (Eddy), both of Lexington, NC; grandchildren, Johnnie Ray, Joey, Katherine, Jonathan, and Brittany; and nine great grandchildren.
She will be dearly missed. We will always love you Mom.
