James Norwood Sumner, Sr., age 69, of Whiteville, NC, formerly of Clinton, NC, died Wednesday, February 3, 2021 in Columbus Regional Healthcare, Whiteville, NC. Born November 13, 1951 in Sampson County, NC, he was the son of the late Norwood Wells Sumner and Anna Mary Sutton Sumner.
He was a veteran of the United States Army.
He is survived by three sons: James Norwood Sumner, Jr. and wife Terra of Tabor City, NC, Jeffery Sumner and wife Candace of Clarendon, NC and Samuel Sumner and fiancé Allegra of Wilmington, NC; one brother: Edward Sumner of Harrells, NC; one sister: Teresa Herring of Clinton, NC; and five grandchildren: Callie, Brady, Alex, Andrew and Alieyah.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson: Norwood Wade Sumner.
Visitation will be held Saturday, February 6, 2021 from 2 PM to 5 PM in the Epworth United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, Clinton, NC.
