Henry Eldridge “Bun” Benton, 84, died Friday, April 14, 2023, in the Columbus Regional Healthcare System. He was born in Columbus County, a son of the late Barcie Benton and Alma Gertrude (Long) Benton.
Bun was a member of the Nakina Fire and Rescue for many years. He was a lifetime member of the Nakina Pentecostal Holiness Church, serving as a deacon, superintendent, and in many other ways. He was a farmer and loved working in his yard and had just retired at age 82 from Amerigas. In his 30 plus years with the company, he had seen ownership change from Campbell Gas Company to Cape Fear Gas Company, and finally Amerigas. Mostly, he was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.
He is survived by two daughters, Kandy Ashley (Bud) of Leland, NC and Terri Scott (Marty) of Fuquay Varina, NC; one brother, Elwood Benton of Nakina, NC; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two special nephews, Randy Reaves and Larry Fowler; and a special niece, Gloria Fowler.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Norman Benton, and one infant sister.
Honoring Henry as pallbearers will be Larry Fowler, Larrime Fowler, Lloyd Bryant, Rocky Bryant, Ernie Best, and Keith Thompson.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 18th in Nakina Pentecostal Holiness Church, with burial to follow in the Gore Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM Monday in Inman Ward Funeral Home.
