G. Sarah Hedgepeth, 71, of Asheville, NC, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 12, 2024. Born on September 13, 1953, to the late Gene and Muriel Hedgepeth, Sarah lived a life filled with love, adventure, and a deep appreciation for nature.
After earning a master’s degree in vocational rehabilitation, Sarah dedicated three decades to serving others as a devoted employee of the Social Security Administration. Her early years were spent along the North Carolina coast, where she cultivated a lifelong passion for the ocean. In Asheville, Sarah continued to find solace and joy in the natural world, whether swimming in deep mountain lakes or exploring the Western North Carolina Nature Center.
Sarah was a devoted animal lover, especially to her beloved cat, Punkin. She also cared for the cats of her friends and neighbors, demonstrating her compassionate spirit. Her yard was a sanctuary for wildlife, and she delighted in observing the bears that often visited.
She was steadfast in her faithfulness, trusting in God and loving Him through all circumstances. She lived her life with humility while prioritizing the welfare of others and the glory of God.
Sarah is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Warren Hedgepeth. She is survived by her loving family and friends who will cherish the memory of her sweet smile and gentle demeanor.
A celebration of her life will be held Friday, October 25th at 3:00pm at Olyphic Baptist Church in Tabor City, NC.
