Ethel Mae Carter, age 99, of Hampstead, NC, died Monday, November 17, 2025, in Liberty Commons, Whiteville, NC. Born April 17, 1926, in Wallace, NC, she was the daughter of the late Austin Atkinson and Myrtle Carr Atkinson.

She was a member of Provident Baptist Church in Holly Ridge, North Carolina.

She is survived by one daughter, Joyce Herring of Tabor City, NC, one brother, David Atkinson of Carolina Beach, NC, one granddaughter, Heidi Herring of Clayton, NC, four great grandchildren, Alex Herring (Lacy), Arron Herring, Matthew Hurst and Jordyn Herring and two great great grandchildren Deacon Mack Herring and Lennon Rose Herring.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harvie Carter, one son, Tommy Carter, one infant daughter, Julia Dean Carter and one grandson, Brandon Herring.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 19, 2025, in Quinn McGowen Funeral Home Chapel, Wallace, NC at 2:00PM with burial to follow in Rockfish Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in Quinn McGowen Funeral Home, Wallace, NC.
