Fayetteville, NC

Donald David Williams, age 87, formerly of Tabor City, NC died Wednesday, April 4, 2018 in the North Carolina State Veterans Home, Fayetteville, NC.

Born in Columbus County, NC, he was the son of the late Jacob David William Williams and Maggie Fowler Williams.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he worked in electronics. He then operated the electronics for a radio station.  After his service in the Navy, he graduated from UNC Raleigh where he pursued a career in teaching.  He taught in the Sacramento River Delta School District for 30 years.  It was his joy to sing in the choir at Walnut Grove Presbyterian Church with his wife of fifty years, Edna Carter Williams.  Don moved back to his home town in 2002 and enjoyed singing in the Tabor City Baptist Church choir and playing an active part in the local Rotary Club.

He is survived by his wife Helen Bowen Williams of Whiteville, NC, two daughters, Donna Matthews and husband Michael of Supply, NC and Denise W. Geyer and husband Tom of Hillsboro, VA, one son, David Dwayne Williams of Phoenix, AZ, one sister, Mary Marie Gaffigan of Roseville, MI,  six grandchildren, Kari Johnson, Kasey Tibbedeaux, Krystal Tyree, Breton Geyer, Aubrey Geyer, Kenton Geyer, three great-grandchildren, Blake Tibbedeaux, Breana Long, Katie Johnson, one great-great-grandchild, Adam Long and six step children: Linda Soles and husband Clyde of Whiteville, NC, Ronald Wade and wife, Lanelle of Ft. Myers FL, Patsy Oot and husband Roger of Whiteville, NC, Martha Morris and husband Charles of Fulks Run, VA, Tommy Wade and wife Kathy of Conway, SC, and  Amanda Lewis of Whiteville, NC.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ted and Dale Williams, and two sisters, Agnes Ragsdale and Myrtle Soles.
