Charles Perry “CP” Godwin, age 79, of the Beaverdam Community, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, May 13, 2025, in the Lower Cape Fear Hospice & Lifecare Center, Whiteville, NC. Born in Columbus County, NC, he was the son of the late William Godwin and Idella Hinson Godwin.
A native of the Beaverdam Community and member of Beaverdam Original Freewill Baptist Church. He was well known for his love of gardening and sharing what he grew with his neighbors. Affectionately known as “Big John” or “Hoss” to many. He worked at International Paper for over 35 years retiring in 2000 as operator of the Carolina King. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved all things outdoors in his lifetime which he passed on to his grandson Braden.
He is survived by one daughter, Hollie Idella Fowler (Brandon) of Clarendon, NC, one son, Charles Alan Godwin (Kristen) of Orrum, NC, one brother, Jerry Godwin (Victoria) of Albuquerque, NM, three grandchildren, Braden Fowler, Kaycee Godwin and Marlee Godwin.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Rebecca Sue Graham Godwin and brother Rev. Jackie Godwin
Visitation will be held Friday, May 16, 2025 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM in the Beaverdam Original Free Will Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 17, 2025 at 3:00 PM in Beaverdam Original Freewill Baptist Church with entombment to follow in Hinson Cemetery.
