Charles Burnett Coleman Obituary

Tabor City, NC

Charles Burnett Coleman of Tabor City, NC, died January 2, 2024, at McLeod Loris Hospital, Loris, SC.  He was born September 16, 1941, in Lumberton, NC, and was the son of the late Hosea and Eloise Lancaster Coleman of Tabor City.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Fulford Coleman of 56 years and his two daughters Kimberly Coleman Clontz of Tabor City, NC, and Greta Coleman Williford of Wilmington, NC; two brothers, Winston Coleman of Tabor City, NC, and Ronald Coleman (Karen) of Lexington, NC, and one sister, Barbara Childers (Don) of Asheboro, NC.

In addition to his wife and daughters, he is survived by grandchildren: Coleman Cox Williford (Mackenzie) of Wilmington, NC; Jonathon Carrington Clontz of Havelock, NC; Mary McKenzie Williford (fiancé Nathan Massengill), and Lillian Belle Williford all of Wilmington, NC; a great-grandchild Asher David Williford of Wilmington, NC; and several nieces and nephews.

Burnett was a retired banker of twenty-five years. He was a faithful member of Tabor City Baptist Church serving as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Baptist Men’s Director, and Church Treasurer.  Through the years, he was actively involved in the Jaycees, Rotary Club, Tabor City Chamber of Commerce (President 1988), Board of Directors for Columbus County Tourism Bureau (1998-2008), and Board Chair for Matthew 25 Center at Tabor City.  Burnett was a 1963 North Carolina State University graduate and a member of the NCSU Wolfpack Club. He thoroughly enjoyed attending football games and watching the Wolfpack on tv with his family and friends.  After graduating college, he served in the National Guard and started his career as an agriculture agent—which eventually led to his career in banking. Burnett found joy in serving others and helping them to achieve their goals.
