So sorry to just find out Mr. Levi passed just a week before Leroy. He was our first friend when Leroy started dialysis. I loved talking to him so much. We are going to miss these two so much and talking about their tractors and his cars. He will be missed by many and I am one of them. Love to the family.

Linda,

We were also sorry to hear about Leroy passing. Levi did enjoy visiting him. Please accept our condolences. Our prayers are with you and your family.

I enjoyed talking to him about the Lord and the Bible when we first started. He talked so much about riding his tractor and me telling him he needed to slow down and him telling me to let Leroy drive his John Deere and he did only a couple of time but was not able to do so. I will miss him so much and the others at Dialysis but Levi was my special man. We formed a good bond to always be remembered.

Levi and I were shipmates aboard the USS Kearsarge. We worked together, laughed together, played cards together and went on liberty together.
Always a friend. He is one of my shipmates I remember well...even after almost 60 years.
Levi, you will not soon be forgotten....
Fair sailing

Ski,

Thank you for your heart felt message. Like i've told the others on here. My grandfather was always quick to tell a story about his time in the service. He always had a simile on his face each time one was told.

I was a shipmate of Levi’s aboard the USS Kearsarge (CV-33) back in 1957-59). He was one of my close buddies during my time on that ship. He was always pleasant and fun to be around. Thanks to an internet search, I was able to reconnect with him about 10 years ago. To my great good fortune, he and I and another buddy, Jim Lindberg, were able to get together in 2011 for a long weekend at a cabin my family owned in the woodlands west of Madison (WI). I have posted a photo taken during that get-together on this website. Except for being a few years older, Levi hadn’t changed at all from our earlier days. It was a heart-warming experience for all of us.

My sincerest condolences to the Porter family, and special thanks to Alice for all the care she provided to him during his final months. And, Levi, our get-together in 2011 may have been our “last muster” on this planet, but I look forward to seeing you again, somewhere beyond the horizon!

Jim,

I, along with the rest of the family, thank you for your story and kind words about my grandfather. I remember him telling me several stories of him and his friends in service. He always enjoyed telling people about his time aboard the Kearsarge. I also know just how much the trip to see ya'll in 2011 meant to him. Thank you again for being such a good friend to my grandfather. I hope that you get a chance to see him once again.

So very sorry to hear of the passing of my former shipmate, Levi, and my heartfelt condolences go out to his wife, Alice, and to all the family members and friends. I haven't had contact with Levi for some 50 plus years and I wish to thank, another shipmate, Jim Sorenson, for linking me up with Levi once again, this past year, when I was able to converse with him via the telephone and and have him respond with an informative and heart warming letter along with a photo of him and his lovely wife.

Levi, shipmate, I'm wishing you fair winds with following seas on your voyage to the better place and I have one request, on my behalf, for you. When the good Lord calls me and if he deems me worthy of joining you in the hereafter, I would be honored to have you there to welcome me aboard when I arrive.

At this time, shipmate Levi, I render to you my very best hand salute.

Deke,

Thank you for the kind words about my grandfather. I remember going to see him and hearing him talk about all the fun he would get into on the ship. He never changed even up until the end. He was the constant jokester. He always enjoyed talking to his shipmates and writing ya'll letters back and forth. I'm sure he will be the one saluting you the next time you both see each other.

Levi was one of my favorites in the com crew aboard the Kearsarge. He was a magician at getting things from other groups like food from the cooks, cable from the electricians and welders when we needed them. In the Navy we called him a master kamshau artist. A fine gentleman.

Bob,

Thank you for your kind words about my grandfather. He loved his time aboard the Kearsarge. Believe it or not, but I as well as the rest of the family remembers him just the same as you. He was always full of life, trying to make people smile, and helping others. He would give someone the shirt off his back if he thought they needed it. I'm sure he thought you as fine gentleman as well. Thank you again for posting.
