James Howard McPherson

Clarendon, NC

Mr. James Howard McPherson, age 85, died Monday, January 14, 2019, in Liberty Commons Nursing & Rehab Center, Whiteville, NC.  Born March 26, 1933 in Columbus County, NC, he was the son of the late Fred and Bessie McPherson.

He is survived by his wife: Judy Wright McPherson of the home; four sons: Jeff McPherson and wife Brenda of Lumberton, NC, Greg McPherson and wife Gidget of Clarendon, NC, Mark and wife Terry McPherson of Whiteville, NC,  and Eric McPherson and wife Sue of Lake Waccamaw, NC; two daughters: Linda Gail Barnes Jenrette and husband Tim of Clarendon, NC and Abby Worley and husband Tom of Chadbourn, NC; three brothers: Jimmy McPherson of Clarendon, NC, Alfred McPherson of Chadbourn, NC, and Hoyt McPherson of Clarendon, NC; thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren; one step daughter; two step sons; five step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Matha Delores Whittington; one brother: David McPherson; and three sisters: Lucy Monroe, Nellie Lee, and Betty Lou Lisk.

He was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of Beaverdam Original Free Will Baptist Church, where he served as an Elder and sang in the McPherson Quartet since the late 1950s.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 15, 2019 from 6:00 til 9:00 PM in the Beaverdam Original Free Will Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the Beaverdam Original Free Will Baptist Church with burial to follow in McPherson Cemetery.
