Esther Daphene Suggs, age 82, died Sunday, September 1, 2019 in Tabor Commons, Tabor City, NC. Born February 12, 1937 in Columbus County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Isaac Jason and Cleo Clubb Suggs. Her sister Margie Suggs Candler also predeceased her.
She is survived by her sister, Clara S. Etheridge of Matlacha, FL; nephews Jeffery Etheridge (Lisa) of Tallahassee, FL; Scott Etheridge (Bonnie) of Cape Coral, FL; Chris Candler (Loretta) of Boiling Springs Lakes, NC; and a niece Laurie Etheridge (Jason Turner) of San Rafael, CA. She’s also survived by great-nieces Rachael Etheridge, Natalie Etheridge, Sydney Etheridge, Zoe Candler, and Shea Candler and great-nephews Evan Etheridge, Mitchell Etheridge, Harrison Turner, and Alec Candler. Her brother-in-law Robert Candler (Kathryn) of Union, SC and many cousins also survive.
Miss Suggs was a dedicated school teacher for 37 years and was a lifetime member of Old Zion Wesleyan Church. She will be fondly remembered by her family as a devoted daughter, sister and aunt who never forgot to send a birthday or holiday card to each of her family members. She was a caring, giving, much-loved member of the community who will be greatly missed by her family.
Visitation will be held at Old Zion Wesleyan Church on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 2:00 pm with funeral services following at 3:00 pm. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Inman Ward Funeral Home of Tabor City is in charge of arrangements.
