Tabor City, NC


Doris Spivey Gay, age 76, died Thursday, July 14, 2011. She was a native of Tabor City, NC, and the daughter of the late H. Cliff and Ruby H. Spivey.  She was the widow of Dr. Albert Carl Gay, Jr.  Mrs. Gay was a teacher in the Brunswick County school system for 30 years, retiring in 1998. She is survived by her three daughters,  Carolyn S. Gay of Stuttgart, Germany, Sandra J. Gay of Boiling Springs, SC, and Sarah E. Gay of Marietta, GA; one sister, Faye Rozier of Tabor City, NC; four brothers, Tommy and Donald Spivey both of Tabor City, NC, Jimmy Spivey of Whiteville, NC and Billy Spivey of Inman, SC. She was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Spivey. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Tabor City, NC. The family will receive friends after the service at the gravesite and at the family home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Church Street Station, P.O. Box 780, New York, NY 10008 or Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
