Tabor City, NC

Rev. Bruce William Lanier, age 87, died Tuesday, December 5, 2017, in his home.  Born July 24, 1930 in Columbus County, NC, he was the son of the late Lunas and Maude Gore Lanier.

He was a Veteran of the United States Army.   

He attended American Bible School in Chicago, Illinois, where he obtained a certificate in Advanced Theology.  He was a pastor for forty three years.  His first pastoral was Union Chapel Baptist Church, Lake Waccamaw, NC, New Hope Baptist Church in Conway, SC, Elah Baptist Church in Leland, NC, Pleasant Plains Baptist in Whiteville, NC, Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Bladenboro, NC, Galeed Baptist Church in Bladenboro, NC, where he pastored for twenty years.   

He is survived by his wife of sixty seven years: Alma P. Lanier of the home; one son: David Lanier and wife Daphne of Tabor City; one daughter: Jeannie Lanier Tate and husband George of Union Mills, NC; four grandchildren: Shonna L. Gurkin, Shayne Lanier, Tonya L. Creech, Jeremy McDonald; and six great grandchildren: Grayson Gurkin, Garrett Gurkin, Noah Lanier, Liam Creech, Hollyn Creech, and Jacob McDonald.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by five brothers: Jacob Jake Lanier, D.L. Lanier, Rev. Earl Lanier, Rev. J.P. Lanier, P.C. Lanier; one sister: Georgia Russ.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 8, 2017 at 2 PM in the Inman Ward Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow in the Wright Cemetery, Minos Meares Rd., Tabor City, NC.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the chapel.
